Anorectics - Appetite Suppressants

Apr 14 2022

Appetite suppressants, also known as anorectics and anorectics, are a large class of sports nutrition and pharmacological drugs that reduce appetite and thereby contribute to weight loss. Appetite suppressants have different mechanisms of action, which are mainly aimed at suppressing the center of hunger and satiety center activation.

In sports nutrition, anorectics are very often used in complex fat burners. Almost all thermogenics are also appetite suppressants.

Pharmacology

The most effective and powerful appetite suppressants are pharmacological drugs.

Anorectics affecting the serotonergic system:

Fluoxetine is an inexpensive, safe, readily available and effective drug. Optimal choice.

Sibutramine (Meridia) - pronounced effect, but has a high cost

Lorcaserin is a new serotonin receptor agonist

Fenfluramine

Dexfenfluramine

Anorectics affecting the dopaminergic system:

Bromocriptine

Cabergoline (Dostinex)

Anorectics affecting the catecholaminergic system - inhibition of noradrenaline reuptake - and generally stimulate the CNS:

Amphetamine - banned

Amfepramone (Fepranon) - banned

Desopimon - banned

Sibutramine (Meridia)

Mazindol - banned

Ephedrine and other adrenergic agents can also be included in this class.

Blockers of endogenous cannabinoid receptors

Rimonabant

New studies have shown a positive effect of the antiepileptic drug Topiramate.

Side effects and health hazards

Many anorectics are quite dangerous to your health. For example, a drug like Benfluorex is not recommended at all because it can cause heart valve damage and heart failure.Another fairly well-known drug, Fenfluramine, causes pulmonary hypertension, heart valve damage, and myocardial fibrosis. Anorectics affecting the catecholamine system are also CNS stimulants, so they have all the side effects of the latter: agitation, insomnia, hyperactivity, and so on. There are also relatively safe anorectics, such as Fluoxetine and Sibutramine, in rare cases they cause pressure fluctuations, agitation, insomnia, etc. Sports nutrition almost never occurs with pure anorexigenic action, almost all appetite suppressants are represented by thermo generics, and the side effects are very different depending on their composition.
